Twenty-one judges at the culinary competition unanimously awarded 1st and 2nd place to Vince Scigliano and Matt Pennell respectively.
In the traditional "black box" challenge, Chefs Vince and Matt were each provided a black box containing undisclosed ingredients, and given thirty minutes to create a three-course luncheon menu using the ingredients in their black box. They then had 150 minutes in which to prepare their menu for five. The meal they created was judged to be the most creative, appealing and satisfying. As a result of his first place prize, Vince goes on to represent Nova Scotia in the National Finals, to be held in Quebec City in October, 2008.
Vince Scigliano and Matt Pannell are two outstanding members of the young team of culinary professionals that has established Gio as the best restaurant in Halifax. The Prince George Hotel is the only 4-diamond hotel in Atlantic Canada that features a 4-diamond restaurant.
