Security / Night Concierge
Application Deadline: July 6, 2008
Will be responsible to ensure the safety of guests, staff and visitors while maximizing overall hotel security through effective communication, audits, proactive security measures and constant monitoring of the hotel and its property. Must be mature, well-groomed, professional, and able to work independently. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, be organized, self-motivated, and demonstrate initiative. Must be able to work the ‘back-shift’: 11 p.m. – 7 a.m., including weekends and holidays. Experience an asset.
Responsibilities:
To develop proficiencies in security matters. To provide reassuring and hospitable security presence, conduct patrols, minimize loitering, evict unauthorized persons, prevent and act upon noise complaints, minimize damage to or loss of hotel property and to call liaise with police department personal when required to achieve order.
To take responsibility for reporting any deficiency in the hotel that you may have notice during you shift.
To develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of all services and features of this hotel to promote as well as secure entire hotel.
To be fully converse and compliant at all times with emergency response standards, and to report on all incidents, near misses and safety hazards.
To maintain a detailed log of each shift and to forward it to all relevant departments.
To take part in security checks such as locker, and bag checks of staff.
To be proficient in the use of the security camera system we currently have installed in the hotel, and to back up any security issue that may have occurred during your shift.
To question any guest or staff member you feel is acting improperly or in an area of the hotel, which is not their normal work area. To question any staff member who is on property and not scheduled for a work shift.
Attend all staff meetings to introduce yourself to the staff and explain your role as well as to create a security presence for hotel staff.
To complete in detail all incident reports forms and file in an e-file on the shared drive. Using the digital camera for back up in all cases where applicable.
To effectively respond to all reasonable additional assignments determined by the Night Audit Supervisor and Guest Services Manager.
To provide hospitable guest recognition and courteous, efficient and accurate guest services through actions, responses, decisions and communication which exceeds the anticipated and expressed expectations of all guests.

Third Cook - Breakfast

We are looking for an early riser to join our culinary team. Our Breakfast Cook will be responsible for maintaining a consistently high standard of food production through hands-on front-line preparation during the breakfast period, including breakfast orders, daily soups, sauces, vegetables and restaurant specials. This position requires an individual who is a registered Apprentice, career-oriented, self-motivated, and who thrives as part of a creative and experienced culinary team. A minimum of one year of professional food line preparation and/or banquet prep experience is essential. The successful candidate will have the ability to produce a consistently high-quality product. Effective communication skills are essential, and candidates must be available to work a variety of shifts, normally starting at 5:00 a.m., and typically ending at 2:00pm, and including weekends and holidays as required.

Concierge

Responsible for greeting and welcoming hotel guests, escorting them to their rooms, and assisting with deliveries, departures and information services throughout their visits. Must be available to work a variety of shifts with days off that vary from week to week, and must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required. Superior hospitality and verbal communication skills are essential, as well as proven physical stamina required for luggage handling. Bilingualism or multilingualism is an asset. Applicants must have a valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and be proficient at driving standards and automatics in order to provide car parking services and deliveries when required. An excellent knowledge of Halifax and Nova Scotia is essential in order to provide information services to hotel guests. See Job Shop for further details.

Room Attendant

Responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness in guestrooms and suites. This position requires excellent physical stamina. Must have a neat and professional appearance. Excellent communication, hospitality, and team skills are required. Must be available for a variety of shifts including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Days off will vary from week to week.
