Friendly and Innovative East Coast Hotel

I stay in about 20 hotels a year throughout North America and have, therefore, a basis for comparison when I refer to the Prince George Hotel. I found the Prince George to be staffed by very pleasant and friendly staff. Each staff spoke to me when they passed by including very friendly maintenance staff, which is usually not the case in other hotels. One innovation I like about the hotel was the complimentary breakfast. The staff member wheeled the breakfast choices into the room and I could select the items I wanted from the cart. That meant I could have breakfast without leaving the room and having to go to the dining room. The hotel room and the hotel in general was kept clean and neat throughout the day

Dear Mr. McBeath,

Thank you do much for your great feedback.  To be so favourably compared to the many other hotels you have experienced - is praise indeed!  Greatly appreciate your kind comments regarding the staff you encountered during your stay - particularly Rola, who delivered your Crown breakfast.

I do hope we will have the opportunity to welcome you back soon!

great attempt at extra personal accomodation fell a bit short....although still appreciated

I was a late arrival on Wednesday April 25 and had to depart early on April 26 before rooom service was starting........check in staff were quick to respond with a "can make it happen" attitude and took a breakfast order for me that they said they would make sure was there.......it was appreciated.....when the actual order arriived the next AM at the agreed upon time of 5:50; it was greatly appreciated; but did not have any of the beverages requested (cranberry juice or coffee) and also had toast when croissants had been requested........nonetheless, still appreciated

Dear Mr. Legere,

Thanks so much for taking the time and trouble to complete our Guest Survey.

Very pleased to learn that overall you enjoyed your stay and hope that The Prince George will continue to be your hotel of choice in Halifax!  So sorry that the "take out" breakfast was not exactly as you had anticipated.    We always adopt a "let me see what I can do" policy and try to fulfill every request;  however, I imagine that not everything is accessible before the Kitchen staff arrive, i.e. croissants, and your feedback is helpful - because we will now make it clear to everyone what we do have available for early take out breakfast service - to avoid disappointment!

Many thanks again!

Great Hotel

You are greeted by very friendly people at both the door and registration desk! The last several visits I've been out in a room at the end of the hall (less noise) which is my preference! Rooms are very clean and well appointed. Room service is a step above other hotels too! All and all, Halifax's best hotel!!

Thanks again - and hope to see you back soon.

Quality service with a smile

My trip to Halifax was both pleasure & business related. I normally stay at the Delta Barrington but this event was booked at the Prince George. Upon my arrival, I was greeted with open arms & check in was very efficient & quick. The staff sincerely made me feel welcome. I found the rooms to be extremely up to date compared to the tired look of the Delta Barrington which I had pointed out to them at my last visit. The location is very central for my business needs & I would likely stay there again in future. Loved the restaurant look & service as well. Well done Prince George! What I would like to see is some type of reward system for frequent guests similar to the Delta Priviledge reward system. For 5 night stays in one year, I get a card that provides me with $200 to use on the cost of the hotel room or restaurant with 2 free upgrades. This card is valid for one year. I have been able to use this with my family for a night away at a Delta which was appreciated. Food for thought. Otherwise, I can sum up my visit as extremely positive. I am a regional executive that travels frequently & always looking for alternatives that suit my needs & tastes.

- Steve Mcqueen

Hello, Mr. McQueen:

Thanks for the great feedback and I am so pleased to learn that The Prince George may become your new hotel of choice in Halifax!

We do have our own Rewards program, called "Prestige" - the link to sign up is on our website under "rewards" at the top.  The Prestige program rewards for 10 nights or more per year - beginning with a $200 gift card that can be used for either the hotel or our restaurant, Gio.  And we reward your loyalty with occasional upgrades when availability allows and careful attention to any of your special requirements.

Thanks so much for your kind compliments and observations.  Hope to see you again soon.   By the way, we can apply your April nights to your account when you sign up for Prestige.

Kind regards,

Nick Carson,

You are number ONE in my book for customer service. Going the extra mile is standard for your staff.

Needed some work done on a pair of pants. Stephen/concierge arranged to pick them up from room take them to a local tailor and have them back in room same day. Wonderful service. Had lots of trips to Valet parking as it was a business trip, lots of requirements to have access to car. All concierge staff were extremely accommodating and efficient. Thanks to your team......

Near perfection!

My fiance and I there celebrating our engagement and we're not disappointed! We made use of all the luxuries of the Hotel and Crown floor. The champagne was fantastic. The Hot Tub and Pool were beautiful and just what we needed in the morning, followed by breakfast in bed which was such a treat! We only left on a sour note because while caught up in excitement and celebration we forgot to validate parking Saturday night and your Concierge on staff Sunday morning at the front door gave my new fiance a hard time about it and was very disrespectful instead of understanding, it put a real damper when leaving after having such a fantastic time. However, thats the only bad thing we'll have to say to anyone about your hotel.

- David Snow
Geary

Dear Mr. Snow,

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to complete a Guest Survey following your recent visit to The Prince George.

I was delighted to learn that overall you enjoyed your stay - thank you so much for your kind compliments and observations on our staff and services - and many congratulations on your engagement!  I was most concerned, however, to read of the less than impressive handling of a simple situation when you left the hotel with your parking ticket.  Although our lobby and Front Desk staff are asked to ensure that every parking ticket is validated, I would apologize profusely for the somewhat "heavy handed" way your fiancee was treated and would assure you that this has been followed up with those involved.

Mr. Snow, I do hope that you will not be completely deterred from staying with us again in the future and would like to offer you an upgrade to a suite the next time you book (subject to availability).   Please contact Penny Cameron in our Guest Services department at pcameron@princegeorgehotel.com and Penny will make the arrangements for you.

Profuse apologies, once again, and many thanks for sharing your concerns.

Yours sincerely,

Wonderful surprise upgrade, and very fine service.

Front desk personnel very welcoming, and helpful. Parking handled very cleanly. 'Red Room' was a surprise and a delight. Location ideal for attending Neptune, and later checkout time a bonus for the next day. That made a leisurely breakfast a bonus. Service very attentive at breakfast. We will be back!!

Dear Mr. Trenholm,

Thanks so much for your feedback and I was delighted to learn that you enjoyed the "Red Room".  For this entire year, a percentage of the proceeds from this room will be going straight to the Heart &  Stroke Foundation!  So thanks for your support.

I do hope that The Prince George will continue to be your hotel of choice.

An impeccable experience

From the minute we arrived, everything at the hotel was perfect. I've stayed at most of the other hotels in Halifax/Dartmouth and I'd have to say that the Prince George has absolutely become my favourite. The concierge staff was very pleasant and friendly, as was the front desk staff. Room service was busy on the morning we ordered it, but they informed us at the time we ordered and they still exceeded our expectations in speed and quality of our breakfast - the woman who brought it to our room was lovely, very friendly and bubbly. The room was very comfortable and we both greatly appreciated the small details, like 2 different sizes of towels (my husband is 6'3") and that the showerhead was turned against the wall (which might be coincidence, but I'm attributing to attentive cleaning staff). Our stay was to celebrate my husband's birthday and it was lovely. We'll definitely return.

Dear Ms. Richey,

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback!!

We are so pleased that we have become your favourite hotel in Halifax - and we certainly have Kent to thank for his great service and friendliness towards you!

Father and Sons Day and Night Out!

We love coming to the Prince George. First discovered through my attendance at TIANS conferences and my involvement in the Atlantic Aboriginal Health Research Program...we booked rooms for our meetings and booked our board members in the hotel including myself. It has become my place to stay in the city. For three of four year my two young sons (10 and 13) and I have come to the city (take a day and half off of school) to hang out, stay up late, watch movies, visit the Discovery Centre, go climbing at the wall, eat out/eat in, and poke around a few shops a highlight being Freak Lunch Box for the boys. We love staying at the Prince George as our base. We have had both a room with double beds and the suite which is a treat. It's quiet during the day and we spend our time in the pool usually the only ones for hours on end. The beds are comfortable (except for the pull-out with the springs but find me a comfortable pull-out). Around early February we start talking about our trip to the city and finding a good time to travel. Normally it's a winter break but this year it was in April. We have very fond memories of these trips and have included some of these experiences in our memory jar (sounds corny I know but it's nice). What's nice about the Prince George is it's consistent high standards of professionalism in terms of staff, cleanliness, responsiveness to questions, commitment to improving sustainability measures-used the Frog on the pond leaf as a lesson last year (I teach sustainability studies at a university), and its location. I also appreciate the promotional deals offered at times that make it a bit easier to commit to this yearly.

Dear Mr. Colton,

I love the the idea of the "Father and Sons Day and Night Out" and the memories that you are creating - will stay with your sons forever.

Thanks so much for your wonderful review which will be shared with everyone here at The Prince George.  No-one will consider the memory jar to be corny...in fact, we are very proud to get a mention in it!

Check out specials on the website - we often offer packages that include breakfast and\or parking.

Lovely feedback - thank you.

Lovely room and excellent service

We booked the entry level room with a King bed. Very clean and well appointed. Wireless internet (encryption or non encryption options) and Keurig coffee maker were nice touches. We also liked the accessibility to other parts of downtown Halifax through the under/over ground Halifax link system. Service staff at the front desk were well presented and courteous. I stored some valuables in the safety deposit box during my stay. Access was made without problems. Definitely would stay again.

Location # 1

I have stayed at the Prince George for many years when traveling to Halifax on hair conventions .It is always the most convenient place when go to the WTCC. You park and you are good to go .You never (well almost never) have to go outside .That is huge for me! I like to have everything I need in one spot with easy access. I found the accommodations lovely and always up to date. The addition of the door bells on the rooms are awesome . I have one complaint.I went back to the hotel to take a break from the show on Sunday Morning and went to the pool for an hour factoring the fact that the buffet started at 11:30 I decided to go to it about 12 ish .Well I got there (all by myself I might add) and even though there were tables empty, was told there was no room and that they only do one sitting on Sunday! What a disappointment... What a pain in the butt.I was told there were other restaurants nearby.About 2 blocks actually down steep a hill that I would have to maneuver back up.For a lot of people this may not be an issue but I suffer from asthma and for me it is a big deal especially alone . Very needless stress.I might add .Surely at 12:00 they could have suggested some remedy even hiding me in an obscure corner would have sufficed.I tried to persuade the waitress but most disturbingly it didn't seem to bother her in the least .I went to the front desk to get directions and told reception of the situation but again no real suggestions were offered .

- Bonnie Noseworthy

Dear Ms. Noseworthy,

Thanks so much for your feedback - and please accept my apologies for our inability to accommodate you for Brunch.  I do completely understand your frustration and am so sorry for the inconvenience.  It is true that our Sunday Brunch is very popular and reservations have become essential - which was the case on this particularly busy weekend.  I am sure you must have wondered why it was impossible to accommodate you; however, I know that seating is often very "tight" and I do regret that you were given the impression that no-one made any effort to seat you.  Be assured that I will follow up accordingly.

Thanks for sharing your concerns - so sorry for the inconvenience caused.

Spacious and Comfortable

We enjoyed our stay. Being so close to the Metro Centre, the available parking, your friendly staff, and breakfast at The Terrace was swell. I suggest though, a washroom description (tub or shower only) should be made available at time of booking.

Hello, Mr. Ryan:

Thanks for taking the time to complete our Survey and I was really pleased to learn that you enjoyed every aspect of your stay!  Good point - all of our rooms have either a glassed in shower or soaker tub (with shower) and this really should be mentioned when you make your reservation!  Once we know, we place a note in your preferences so you always get the room type you requested - thanks for the reminder which has been passed along to our Reservations team!

Hope to see you again soon!

As good as it ever was...

Home base in Halifax for business and pleasure!

I was traveling to Hfx for business and decided to extend my stay by one night to take in some shopping, etc. I have stayed at the Prince George on business before so was happy to stay again. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The amenities are great - the pool and sauna are a welcome treat. There was a member of staff that came to the pool area at 10pm to clean and I and my companion would have been much more comfortable had they not been mopping and cleaning the glass while we swam/sauna-ed. The desk staff were very helpful at all times. I have not yet eaten in the hotel dining room so I cannot comment on that. Great location to the downtown and waterfront.

- Sarah O`Toole

Dear Ms. O`Toole,

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to complete a Guest Survey following your recent visit to The Prince George.

I was delighted to learn that you enjoyed your stay - thank you for your kind compliments and helpful observations.   I have made a note in your guest profile that you would prefer ceramic cups for coffee and tea - that's no trouble at all.  If you would like a microwaver, we can certainly install one in your room upon request.

Thanks again for your comments and I do hope that The Prince George will continue to be your hotel of choice in Halifax.

Our stay with the Prince George during this emotional and frightening time offered a calm, comforting "Home Base" and the staff provided care well beyond service.

My wife, daughter and I were guests of your hotel on our recent trip to Halifax. We were in Halifax for my daughter's first surgery at the IWK and while asking some friends about the most convenient hotel to stay the Prince George was mentioned. I contacted Penny Camron, through your website, regarding our stay and the nature of our visit and was very pleased with her response and genuine care for our comfort. I cannot express how impressed I am with the staff we had contact with not to mention the hotel itself.

Penny had our room waiting for us including a "Prince George Bear" for my daughter Jessie (5 years old) and an inflatable frog prince for our swim in the pool, as I had mentioned to her that the pool time was Jessie's only concern in our accommodations. Penny was also quick to assure us that the reservations were flexible due to the uncertainty of Jessie's recovery time.

The night before the surgery my daughter wanted some popcorn with her movie and the front desk staff along with the concierge were more than happy to pop it for us as well as to offer any other "e;treats"e; she would like.

I can only say that our stay with the Prince George during this emotional and frightening time offered a calm, comforting "Home Base" and the staff provided care well beyond service. My thanks are from the most sincere sense of gratitude.

- Chris Horrobin

Dear Mr. Horrobin,

Thanks so much for writing.  I am sure many of us can relate to the anxiety of a hospital visit with our children and I was so glad to learn that your visit to The Prince George made the trip a little easier for all of you.

I have passed your kind words on to Penny Cameron and all of the employees who took care of you and your daughter during your overnight stay.  I do hope that she is recovering well and look forward to welcoming you again, under somewhat less stressful circumstances.

Thanks again!

Our visit to the Prince George

I booked 2 nights on the Crown Floor for my wife's 50th Birthday. 13 and 14 of April. I just wanted to let you and your staff know that we had GREAT service! Right from the start, a young man, Alex, gave us a great invite. Our dinner at Gio was excellent. The ladies that served us breakfast in our room gave us great service. Thank you and keep treating your customers like you treated us this weekend. Grant

Comfortable.

I love the Prince George and have made it my number one Halifax hotel choice for years. I do see that the rooms are getting a bit tired looking though. Still OK but some paint is neede in places. I know some hallway touch ups were being done on Monday. Also, I know those little amenities do add to the cost and while I don't often use them, it is kind of nice to have some there. I like the new Keurig machines. The front desk staff and concierge are great as are the dining room staff.

My family had a fantastic stay at the Prince George Hotel!

Every aspect of our stay can be best described as a positive experience. As a general comment I would say that all of your staff carry themselves in a professional manner. The valet staff were very prompt with our vehicle. The suite was comfortable, and the chamber service displayed careful attention to room and personal items. I would note that my family really enjoyed the pool facility. It was warm, bright and extremely well kept.

A wonderful 50th birthday

From start to finish the staff were wonderful. Always polite and helpful the would continue to wish my wife happy birthday. Perfect location & hotel for a stay with friends in downtown Halifax

Overall we had a very enjoyable stay! Your front door staff/concierge is very friendly and helpful. Every time we walked into the hotel or left for the day, they had something friendly to say and made sure that we were enjoying our visit. Location is great and very central! We would have appreciated 24-hour room service since we got back late one night and were all very hungry, but that's just a minor detail.

- Reina Wolke

Dear Ms. Wolke,

Really appreciate the feedback from a fellow hotelier!  I have already passed your kind compliments along to our Concierge - thanks for recognizing their friendly service.

Although we do not have 24 hour room service, there are several good take-out establishments in the area open till the wee hours that we recommend - so don't hesitate to ask for our help if your travels bring you back to Halifax.

Quick Stay

We love staying at the Prince George, the rooms are great, I love the Kuerig coffee maker in the room! nice addition! (could have used more coffee though) We had a really quick stay this time, would have liked to stay another night!!!!!

Dear Ms. Parnell,

Thanks for positive feedback!  We always look forward to welcoming our Michelin guests.

Glad you like the new Keurig coffee machines - have noted that you would like extra coffee and will make sure this happens the next time you stay!  Appreciate your compliments on your early breakfast server - will make sure your comments are passed along.

Hope to see you again soon.
