Comfort at its finest!

This was my first stay at the Prince George Hotel. The hotel was highly recommended to me by my colleague. Although I only spent one night, the experience was wonderful. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. The room was extremely well-kept...and big. I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the room.

Best place we have stayed at in Halifax.

Our daughter attended Dalhousie for the last four years. We have stayed at many different hotels and bed and breakfasts in this time and unfortunately did not stay at your hotel until her graduation. We enjoyed our stay very much. Good location, amenities, and service.Very quiet. I wish we had tried your hotel sooner. We have friends with children still attending Dalhousie and will certainly recommend your hotel to them. Rooms were cleaned in am, or when requested. Concierge got us a quick ride to dinner when no cabs were available on Friday evening. Cot was sent up to room immediately when requested. Only disappointment was that we were unable to try your restaurant as walk Ins after the am graduation on the Thursday because it was full for lunch. Will stay here again when we visit Halifax.

Great stay! Loved the hotel, loved Halifax

We came in for our son's grad from Dalhousie Law School. Everyone in the hotel was helpful and accomodating, however it would have been nice to have the room ready when we arrived from a long trip from St. Maartan. Pool and restaurant were excellent. Room was very comfortable and clean. Great stay.

Definately coming back

The overall experience, service, accommodation, location and amenties were all amazing...it was a perfect way to celebrate my boyfriend and mine 8 year Anniversary. Shawn Laronde actually reccommended this room for us and I will definately tell others about it. I also thought the lounge on the same level as the room (Crown) was a great idea!!! We went down to the Grafton Street Dinner Theatre for supper so it was perfect location as it was only a few minute walk.

great experience

I just want to add that I have stayed there many times over the past 4 years during my daughters time at Dal. Last time I filled out the survey because I was so disappointed in my stay. I found it incredible that each of my concerns seemed to be addressed. I almost felt as though you had my notes and made sure I was looked after. Thank you!! Plus we had a room with the new shower rather than tub, and I loved that too. Staff, as usual, was great. We love Halifax, and hope to come back even though our daughter has graduated. We would always stay at the Prince. It is the right size, great location, and great staff.

A beautful way to spend our Anniversary!

We came to your hotel through a wedding rate offered to us. It being our anniversary weekend too, we were excited to attend the out--of-province wedding. It was more than we expected and were so very pleased with having access to the lounge on the crown floor. Our room was across the hall from it, and it was loveley to know there was food and drink in there for us whenever we needed. Being hypoglycemic, I need to ensure I eat properly every few hours and this made it easy anda comfortable stay for the 3 nights we had booked. We are so glad we booked the extra days around the wedding. A great surprise was the bottle of wine sent up to us from reservations for us for our anniversary. So kind. We did forget the bottle there, but the thought was lovely! Thank you. The staff was wonderful every day, everywhere in the hotel. Jenn & Aaron, from Ontario

25th Anniversary Prince George Halifax Weekend Extravaganza!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! We were upgraded for our 25th wedding anniversary last weekend and it made our entire weekend with you! We are so grateful for your consistent hospitality. We love all of your staff throughout the hotel. They are spectacularly geared to excellent customer service, it shows, we notice, we appreciate it and we enjoy it. The room was impeccibly clean and that is wonderful. Comfortable bed and amenities and just a wonderful, warm, comfortable, safe feeling that we get from the Prince George, we stay with you when we come to Halifax because of this. Unfortunately you are booked for this Monday or I'd be back. Your locations was best for all of our planned activities. The only thing I like the least is when I have to return home and return to reality, but for our short stays we can enjoy loveliness! Again thank you and thank you awesome staff. They really are fantastic and it matters.

almost terrific, /

Would have appreciated better lighting in bathroom. It is very very poor. Also several places we have stayed on our travels have a large magnifying mirror in the bathroom, very helpful for putting on makeup. Because of the lighting I had to take a mirrow to the window and try there. Not very good. Your staff were truly wonderful. Food just plain terrific. I would love to know how the chef prepares the "bacon wrapped scallops" the best I have ever had. Can you help me with that. Thanks for a wonderful stay. It was my first trip to Halifax. Thank you for taking the time to send me your feedback.  I was delighted to learn that you enjoyed your stay overall and have taken note of your comments and observations.   Since we switched to the energy saving bulbs, we have received some comments about the lighting in the bathroom but we are working to improve this situation.  So sorry that you had a problem and thanks for reporting your concern.  Many of our rooms have magnifying mirrors currently and since they have proven popular, we are gradually installing them throughout the hotel.  In the meantime, however, I have a placed a note in your guest profile to ensure you always have a magnifying mirror should you stay with us again!

Thanks for the compliments on our wonderful food.  The bacon-wrapped scallop recipe follows:  Use a good quality bacon!  Wrap each scallop in bacon and sear with the seam side down until the bacon is crispy. Pre-heat the oven to 400 degrees and place bacon wrapped scallops in oven for 2 minutes.  The scallops can be removed and warmed in the oven before serving.  Sounds simple, I know - the real secret is good quality product!

Great staff!!!

While the property is a little tired and the bathrooms really small, the hotel is fortunate enough to have amazing staff who are friendly, helpful and always willing to lend a helping hand. Having this kind of guest service makes it easier to stay at an otherwise a little dated property. While our room size was great, the closet and bathroom were much too small for a room of our size (suite). Plus, the location is great - right in the middle of everything. A good and memorbale stay

marathon guest

My wife and I enjoyed our stay very much. The location is excellent for downtown Halifax, close to shopping, eating, and the marathon. Lynn enjoyed the shopping especially, all within walking distance. We parked the car when we arrived and did not need it until we left. The employees were pleasant and helpful, there when we needed them. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. The only issue is I have not received my bill yet by email.

Awesome stay

We were lucky enough to stay on the sixth floor, we were there for the Bluenose marathon so having the loounge with the complimentary breakfast was great. I t was open at 6:30 so my son was able to get some food into him before the marathon. The front desk staff was exceptional, the hotel very clean and there was no problems, plenty of parking and we were in and out over our stay and no problems. We loved it there. Thanks

Mistake on reservation

I don't know if it was my mistake or the reservation desk but when I came to check in on Sat. the reservation was made for Sunday. The gentleman at the front desk made it possible for us to get a room. We were very pleased.

Thanks for making it Special

Hi, A couple of weeks ago it was our 40th Wedding Anniversary so I booked a one night stay (for the 10th May) paying the regular rate, but on arrival we found that not only had we been upgraded to the 6th floor but a bottle of champagne had been left in the room for us. It really made it "special" for us, so we would like to say Thanks for the kind consideration that you guys afforded us. Being local (Hammonds Plains) we don't get to stay in the downtown Hotels, but we have dined in Gio's a good number of times, and it's always an enjoyable experience. It really was a nice gesture, one that we very much appreciate it, the gesture was as classy as the Prince George is. Short stay by excellent service with the best accommodation.

We arrived at the hotel in the evening, we your greeted at the entrance for the Prince George Hotel by one of your staff with a kind welcome and so helpful we your very please with all the staff. At our departure we got the same kind and helpful respond as well. I was pleasantly grateful for everything offered to us. Please except all my thanks and congratulation to all your staff for the best professional job done I have ever experienced. Our room was situated not for from the elevator and the sound can be a bite loud at night from 10:00 to 12:00 we your sleeping and your awakened a few times. A new favorite in Halifax

Excellent service, beautiful property, comfortable room and the Prince George has become my new favorite home away from home in Halifax. I know it seems like the most trivial item but I really enjoyed that there were actual creamers for my in-room coffee in the morning. I hate the Coffee Mate powder that most locations provide. Attention to detail - even for the smallest things! Thanks for that!

Tired property ... especially the rooms

Just Love the Prince George!

We recently spent two nights at your fine hotel. We had a King Deluxe Suite and the suite, itself, is very impressive. It was very clean and so nicely appointed. Your staff is superb. We felt welcomed from the lovely gentleman who greeted us at the entrance, to the Front Desk staff, and housekeeping. Your location is the best in Halifax. We ordered in-room dining on 3 occassions and the staff who took our orders were courteous and efficient. We couldn't believe how quickly our food arrived to our room. However, we were disappointed with the slow sevice at GIO when we dined there on Friday night. It wasn't overly busy. Still, the food was excellent! We will be visiting Halifax again in a couple of weeks and we plan to stay at the Prince George, of course. We would like some info on the Red suite because we like the idea of contributing to a charitable cause. Does this suite have a private bedroom or is it more like a junior suite? Finally, we are happy that your hotel is 'green' and completely non-smoking. We also appreciate the 1pm check-out. Even though we checked out around 10am, it was nice not to feel rushed. The Red Room has been specially decorated in "reds" to support the Heart & Stroke Foundation - and a percentage of the proceeds will go to the Foundation at the end of the year.  The room is a junior suite, as you thought, with the bedroom separated by double frosted glass doors.

Glad that you enjoyed everything overall - but will follow up on the slow service you reported in Gio.

Totally wonderful and relaxing

I had family in town for a niece's graduation so we used the hotel as a overflow. But it was wonderful to have quiet and relax. Enjoy the night life in downtown Halifax which is great to be able to tour the city and be able to walk. Loved the fact that the parking was included in the package I bought. The family arrived at the hotel around noon on Sunday and we all relaxed and put finishing touches on for the graduation. I asked the housekeeper for more coffee and she was wonderful in giving us two more for those who like coffee. Buffett breakfast was great and tasty. Nice to have all those options. Two of us used the pool on Sat evening and it was relaxing, quiet. In all the hotel was great and I would use you again and tell my friends about the great service. You have a great place!!! great encore

Unexpected Overnight Stay

Great stay, I was ungraded to the Crown Floor and got to enjoy your new lounge. Very well done!! This new addition is sure to be a hit with your patrons. Only "hiccup" was that I was unable to get a "secure" wireless connection from my room. Talked to your staff but they were, although apologetical, unable to help but they did try.

It was good, bad, and dissapointing.

We had a reservation for Saturday, May 5th. We were told check in started at three, we arrived at three thirty and were told that the room was not ready and they would call us when on the cell when the room was ready, so we left our bags at the desk and asked where we could park our truck and were advised we could park in the parkaid, and tried to kill some time, at six pm we recieved a call letting us know the room was ready. (that was the first dissapointment) So know we are in a rush to get ready for the show at the Metro Center, so it kind of ruined the mood of our night. (second dissapointment) After the show, we came back to the Prince George, it is a wonderfull room well set up with plenty of hot water. We enjoyed our breakfast and paper the next morning and packed up our gear and prepared to leave. At the check out desk I asked to have our ticket for the parking validated, we were told that we had to pay for parking, we were never told that when we were guided to park there, we assumed it was included. (third dissapointment) We usually stay at other places, and feel even though they may not be as close to downtown, they treat us better than your establisment has treated us, and just to give you an example, we once arrived at an establishment and the room was not ready and they upgraded our room at no cost to us instead of telling us to wait for a few hours. So sorry that we caused you disappointment on this visit.  Our check in time is 3 pm and usually most, if not all, of our rooms are ready;  however, one particular room had been selected for you - and it is one of a kind...and this was the reason for the delay.  Be assured that we would certainly have upgraded you to whatever we had available - but on this particular day there was limited availability and we did not want to "downgrade" you!  I can certainly understand your frustration at having to wait for your room until past 6 o'clock, especially as you were attending a concert - and for this, I am deeply sorry.  The delay in the room being ready for occupancy could have been for a variety of reasons - most probably because the previous occupant was late checking out.  Profuse apologies, once again.

Mr. & Mrs. Wills, all of the downtown hotels charge for parking - although it is often "hidden" in a higher room rate.  So sorry that this was not explained to you when you checked in - and it just added to your disappointment.

Pleasant stay

Helpful front desk and concierge. Modern spacious and tidy room. Great location. Free Globe and Mail. Reasonable rate. Only point of concern is the accommodation of pets although I have a pet of my own. I assume their must be designated rooms for the pets?

Lovely accomadations and would highly recommend..

This is a lovely hotel to stay in. The staff is very pleasant and helpful especially when you haven't stayed in the area before as an overnight guest. I only have one concern in that this stay was a gift from my boss for Christmas, and when we checked in on Saturday evening we were told to just go to the buffet for breakfast, sign the bill and bring it to the front desk and they would deduct it from the bill. On Sunday morning we went for the buffet breakfast, signed the bill and asked the waitress for the bill to take to the front desk. She said that they would look after it. We went to the front desk to check out and was told that there was a limit on the breakfast of $25.00 and had to pay the difference of $14.00. We were not told this when we checked in on Sat. evening and I looked over my reservation voucher and did not find it anywhere where it says that there is a $25.00 breakfast limit. If I was going to give this hotel stay as a gift I certainly would want to know ahead of time to let the person know so that they would be prepared. I went back to the front desk after checking my voucher again in our room and could not find the $25.00 limit. When we were leaving I stopped at the front desk to let them know that I had check my voucher and couldn't find the $25.00 limit on the breakfast to just let them know that if I was giving this stay as a gift that I would want to know ahead of time. They ended up giving me back my money which I thought was very nice of them but that is not why I wanted them to know about the $25.00 limit. Thank you for a memorable anniversary!

I decided to book a two-night getaway to celebrate the second anniversary of my first date with my partner. As we have lived in the Halifax area for all of our lives, we had never stayed in any of the local hotels. My boyfriend had been doing so many renovations to our home and deserved a rest; it was vital that his weekend be made special because he had been working so hard and was exhausted both emotionally and physically. Shortly after we made the reservation, on the Thursday prior to our check-in date, a water main broke behind our home flooding our basement. Our belongings (including our luggage) were all stored downstairs during the renovation and everything was submerged under 6-8 inches of water. So many of our precious memories were lost, irreplacable items that will remain permanently damaged by the flood. It was the final stressor necessitating our getaway weekend. In spite of the flood and chaos at home, we decided to proceed with our stay. Especially given the circumstances, we could not have been more grateful for the exceptional treatment and service that your hotel provided. We were thrilled with everything your hotel has to offer. Our king size bed was extremely warm and comfortable with huge, comfy pillows and blackout curtains so we could sleep in if we wished or have some down time in the afternoon. The extra large tub, mahogany furniture, flat screen TV, Keurig and complimentary coffee were icing on the cake. We also spent a great deal of time relaxing in the whirlpool or swimming in your pool and we thoroughly enjoyed every moment. Regrettably your patio was undergoing renovations and was unavailable for our stay, but it did look beautiful. One of my most memorable events of our stay was the Sunday Brunch in the Terrace. The food was fresh, decadent, and often cooked in front of us. The huge selection and variety of foods far surpassed my expectations and it was one of the most flavourful meals I have had in many years. I WILL be returning frequently for this feast of epic proportions! Gio was also an excellent restaurant. We had the opportunity to eat there at the end of our stay. Their menu was wonderful and the service was exceptional. Overall, our stay at the Prince George Hotel was by far the best way we could have spent our anniversary. We had an outstanding weekend and could not have been treated any better by your staff. You truly made us feel special and took every effort to make our accommodations comfortable. There is no doubt that we will be returning.

Would this suit all our tastes?

Absolutely! We had a young family with a 3 year old and "his" parents, (wealthy SAfrican) and us from Antigonish. We were not sure if it would be "up to standard" for the SAs but they all loved it and thought it was the perfect place to stay when exploring Halifax. great one night stay in Halifax to attend show at Metro centre

Our visit at Prince George was a good one. We only stayed one night. A few things, a room for 4 adults was requested and we found the beds very small. The headboard of the bed was not dusted. The tissue box was empty. The hotel is very appealing and the staff very friendly and helpful. I would stay there again.

Exceptional Stay!

Stayed on the Crown floor for a night while we were in town to catch the Cirque Du Soleil and had a fabulous time. We had a great view of downtown and the waterfront and the room was outfitted with the finest linens and amenities. From the second we arrived to the second we left, everything about our stay was fantastic. The only thing that I would have changed is adding more to the breakast trolly. Even still though it was an excellent value for our buck. Staff was wonderful and location superb!

Very nice hotel

Very Pleasant Stay

Check in was good. Available on site parking was convenient, although the treck with bags from the lower level of the parking garage, to the floor with the elevator was a challenge. The room and television were great. Room service was friendly and efficient. The clock in my room was two hours off. I am not a stupid person, but could not figure out how to fix it. Neither could the room service person when she came to deliver my meal. The bed in my room was comfortable, but very squeaky when I moved.

There is an elevator on all levels of the parking garage which takes you up to the Lobby;  however, it's often easier to stop in the front of the hotel, unload luggage to a cart and then park - however we can help in the future, let us know!  Profuse apologies for the incorrect time on the clock..and the trouble you had trying to fix it.  It is now "fixed" - along with a general communication to Housekeeping to ensure the clocks are checked daily...and the squeaky bed is fixed too.

Great Service and friendly staff!!

We arrived at the hotel around 8:00am--not expecting to get our room till lunchtime--we were surprised and happy to have our room then. A BIG THANKS for that! Your hotel employees are very friendly and pleasant, which is a big plus for you, sadly that's not the norm these days. We enjoyed the breakfast--it was lovely. It was nice not to have to go outside to get to most of the downtown areas,-- especially on Friday when it was raining. I'm looking forward to next year, when we will be staying at your hotel again. Professionalism, Courtesy & Warmth at the Prince George Hotel

First let me start by saying that we are "Starwood Preferred Guests" and have been choosing the Westin as our Halifax hotel of choice for many years. However, in the last couple of years, we have noticed a change at that hotel, and not for the better. So we decided to try the Prince George Hotel, and we are so glad we did! We were greeted immediately and warmly by all staff we encountered. Valet parking guys were so helpful; front desk staff a delight to check in with. Our room on the 4th floor (King bed) was wonderful - spacious and clean - and decorated in warm colours. The bed was very comfortable, and we had a good night's sleep. The only negative remark regarding the room is that we could hear the folks in the next room through the wall quite clearly. Fortunately they were not noisy, this was just the sounds of running water, flushing toilet, razor, etc. We didn't notice noise from the hallway at any time. We had breakfast in your dining room in the morning, and again, the service was friendly, courteous and professional. The food was hot and delicious, and so was the coffee. The surroundings were attractive, and we appreciated the complimentary newspaper. We spent the night of Saturday April 28th in Halifax to celebrate my 55th birthday, and the Prince George was the perfect place to do it. We both felt that "aaahhhh" feeling that one gets when staying in a fine and comfortable hotel. We appreciated that the atmosphere was gracious but not pretentious...just wonderfully warm and welcoming. From now on, the Prince George is our hotel of choice while staying in Halifax! We wont be back!

Check it excellent - our requests had been noted but it was a shame that considering the hotel was not full that we were not given a room with an office view instead of the city view, so we felt taken advantage of - we should not have had to ask. Room Service excellent and room service food excellent. Pool facilities and staff excellent Room cleanliness excellent - no bath robes was disappointing, We should not have had to ask. Breakfast service and food excellent My wife was very frustrated when taking a shower that the water presssure was so low. On calling reception when I returned (she had been in the shower half an hour trying to wash her hair with a drizzle of water) I was told how to resolve it and that they get this request every day - ever think of putting up a sign that says "pull taps out of wall very hard to increase pressure"?. It made us half an hour late for our restaurant, who pressured us to order as the kitchen was closing (Chives) and resulted in a very stressful evening which was her birthday treat and ruined the whole stay. Call Chives - I'm sure the wauter remembers. So no, you ruined our stay, so we wont be back, ever.

I was delighted to learn that you enjoyed many aspects of your stay and really appreciate your kind comments on your check in, room service, breakfast and the cleanliness of your guestroom.  The hotel was very busy at the weekend and we placed you in our "30" section of the building which is the quietest.   I am so sorry that you were disappointed in not having a harbour view and have noted that request in your guest profile.  We always supply bathrobes upon request (there is a card to this effect on the robe hanger in the closet);  however, in an effort to be environmentally friendly, we realized that the daily laundering of over 200 bathrobes a day, whether they had been worn or not, was taking a tremendous toll on both power and water supply - and was very wasteful. 

Profuse apologies for the problems with the shower - and the fact that you were late for your restaurant reservation as a result. I plan to share your comments with my Maintenance team so that we can work on a solution.

I do hope that you will consider returning and would ask that you contact Penny Cameron at pcameron@princegeorgehotel.com - in our Guest Services Department if you would like to stay with us again.  Penny will ensure that every aspect of your stay is perfect - and we would all very much like the opportunity to demonstrate the high standards of comfort and service for which we strive!
