Excellent experience!

PG was recommended by another friend who had stayed there a few years ago. The process of making reservations for three couples previous to our visit was easy. Questions before our stay were answered in a timely matter. The staff, accommodations & time at the Prince George were excellent. We especially liked the location within a walking distance of the Citadal, gardens & wharf.

Breakaway visit at a great location, great hotel, great city.

We made arrangements for our son to join us in Halifax, from Ottawa, and we made our trip a mini-adventure by travelling Via Rail round-trip. We arrived on Thursday, August 15, and even though we were definitely "late" arrival, we had notified the hotel earlier in the day and our room was ready and waiting and the reception staff most pleasant. Our Friday, we spent wandering about the harbourfront and mid-evening "the kid" arrived from Ottawa, first stop our room, only fitting :) :) to say hello to "the parents". Our son was happy with his accommodation and Halifax is one of his favourite spots, too. He has to come back from Ottawa to see the ocean. We can only say we enjoyed our hotel stay, the staff was cheerful, pleasant and helpful. Our son left on Sunday evening, much refreshed, and we had two extra days in Halifax. We would recommend the Prince George to anyone and we do. We are looking forward to planning another visit in the near future. Thanks to all your staff for making our visit an enjoyable one.

- Dan Whyte

Hopefully we can be your getaway-go-to spot again very soon Mr. & Mrs. White - thank you for reviewing us.

A lovely way to start a honeymoon!

This was the first night of our 10day honeymoon, touring the maritimes and from the moment we checked in we were made to feel very special. I had called ahead and let your staff know that it was our honeymoon and we were subsequently upgraded on arrival to a lovely suite on the top floor, complete with champagne and chocolates. We found the hotel to be comfortable, cosy and welcoming and would definitely recommend to friends and family.

- Tom Deering

Dear Mr. Deering,

Congrats on the marriage!  I am thrilled to know we were part of your honeymoon..... thank you for giving us that opportunity.  Now ... do I hear 1st year anniversary stay?  We hope so.

Great hotel in a great location

We were greeted by exceptionally friendly front desk staff. Parking was easy. Hotel is very pretty. Kids loved the pool. Saw a few weddings there. Great location. Excellent restaurant recommendations from staff. Sent my husband a bday surprise courtesy of the hotel....very sweet with a stunning Nova Scotian card. Only drawbacks...Bathroom light switch is quite far from the bathroom door so can be annoying to "room mate", altho there is a half decent night light in the bathroom. We had 2 adjoining rooms. One was on the corner and had a much smaller bathroom with very little counter space. The other room had a much bigger counter in the bathroom and a little nook for the coffee and fridge, while ours was part of the room. Go for a non-corner room.

Dear Ms. Ginsberg,

I am glad to know you enjoyed your visit with us and we hope to do it all again very soon.

Potential meeting site

Staff very gracious and accommodating. Assisted in showing a meeting room to me on a Sunday morning and also helped with a late check out to allow me more time to be acquainted with the hotel. Was greeted in the hallways by every staff member except one. Love the Crown level rooms. The views from the guest rooms on the harbor side are spectacular. The Crown Lounge is an excellent idea. There were problems with the espresso machine at breakfast but the attendant was able to get it working. Unfortunately the cart for dishes and cups was overflowing. It was difficult to find a place to set my things....and it was before 9 AM. The overflowing dish cart was the only incident during my stay that did not meet expectations. The guest room is beautifully appointed. Complimentary internet very helpful. Bath linens are plush and the Aveda amenities are excellent choices, nothing too strongly scented. Having a small fridge stocked with bottled water was another bonus. There are two minor guest room suggestions: the faucet handles are so close to the mirror in the bath that the finish on the mirror frame is wearing off. A little touch up paint would be helpful. Also the edge of the desk top had several worn places so the desk could use some scratch cover.

- Ann Brown-Hailey

I hope we can be your host in the future Ms. Brown-Hailey and my apologies for the espresso machine not working.  This has since been fixed so it should not affected another guests stay - thank yuou for letting us know.
We hope to see you again very soon,

Excellent Stay will return, gentleman at front counter upon checkout was exceptional.

Service was excellent, had an opportunity to use pool and weight room, excellent facilities. very little to no noise, only complaint was maybe when a bus load of people check in reserve one elevator for there use, and leave one elevator open for other guests. All in all excellent stay.

- Will White

Dear Mr. White,

I am happy to report the elevator issue is addressed now - I am sorry this nuisance affected your night with us and am glad to know you otherwise enjoyed everything.

Overall a good experience

We arrived early (just after noon) and did not expect room to be ready but told it would be ready in approx 20 minutes. We left luggage and went out for approx 3 hours. When we came back we were told that there was no room ready yet. The gentleman on the desk wanted to take our mobile phone number to contact us but we suggested we wait and have a drink. At 4pm we were given room keys but the room had no bath (Requested by email many months before) We were then given room keys to a room on floor 6 with complimentary breakfast but when we got there, this room had no bath either. We were told that there were no other rooms free at the moment so we agreed to stay put for one night and a room with a bath would be found the next day. We went out in the morning and came back (for a wedding) just after noon and sure enough a room with a bath was now available. Also all of our luggage had been moved very carefully! We were happy about this, the free breakfast could remain and after phoning down to reception to say that we were now content, a bottle of wine arrived at our door. So all in all, not the best start but handled very well by Bea and Mitchell. The rest of our stay was good with clean, large rooms and excellent service. The wedding was done very well. Food was good and staff friendly and efficient. Location could not be better! Thank you Prince George for making our first visit to Halifax so enjoyable!

- Annette Morrison

Dear Mrs. Morrison,

My apologies for the confusion regarding your room being ready.  You have indicated that you will not be returning to Halifax on your survey but if you ever do we will be here looking to show you a perfect visit with us.  Again my apolgies for any frustrations we caused.

Pampering in Halifax

I had the pleasure of staying in the Prince George Hotel this August. Upon arrival I was greeted by a friendly doorman. When I proceeded to check in the staff was quick and courteous. The room was wonderful with a great view of the harbour. The linens were sumputious and you literally sunk into bed. This was wonderful after being on the road for 16 hours. The upgraded amenities and the complimentary lounge were a nice surprise. Enjoy myself immenslu. Robin Adams

Great first impression

I recently visited the Prince George Hotel for the first time. As a meeting and events planner I had an opportunity to tour the well appointed meeting rooms and hospitality suites. I found the staff to be helpful and informative at all times during my stay. The location is great and concierge staff was helpful in securing transportation during my many outings. The Gluten Free not Guilt free dessert at GIO is to die for! I would recommend this property to clients and partners for future visitis.

We didn't feel like customers, we felt like very special guests!

As a seasoned traveller and former small Hotel operator I was blown away with every aspect of this facility during our recent stay. Amazing "Guest Services" and attention to detail. Best overall hotel experience ever. Front office staff were more than welcoming. From our initial welcome from Yasir to our friendly farewell chat with Bianca. We were impressed with the service at every turn. Our breakfast attendant Rolia (pardon the spelling), at the Crown lounge was so welcoming each morning, We looked forward to seeing her smile Gio's dinning room was fantastic. Jessica was our server. We thoroughly enjoyed her company and friendly service. If we didn't have family commitments we would have eaten there every day. I was shocked to learn that she was new to the job. As passionate pet lovers and owners of a Veterinary Clinic, We were sooooo impressed with the amazing effort your team put into the "Dogs Days of Summer" event. The Prince George epitomizes the spirit of hospitality. We wouldn't think of staying anywhere else during future visits to Halifax.

Great Get-Away

We had a great time at the Prince George... The room was quite nice but what made the experience special was the lovely staff, especially the concierge who went out of her way to be helpful. Also, your Gio restaurant was a wonderful dining experience for two foodie city-slickers!

The "Prince" Could Teach Fairmont Some Lessons

My partner and I just returned from a two and half week trip to Eastern Canada--from Montreal to Quebec to the Cape Breton Highlands and finally to Halifax where we stayed at the "Prince" for three nights. First impressions? Nothing, of course, can beat the Chateau Frontenac for sheer drama, but the Prince George was in its own way dramatically serene and welcoming. The front of the house staff, from the bellmen, valet, and the front desk were not only professional, but downright friendly. Our room, on the fifth floor facing the Citadel, was hands down the nicest room we had during our entire trip. And when the housekeeper told us that they "parked" their carts inside the room rather than cluttering the hallway, I thought , "Yes!! Why don't more hotels do this?" Furthermore, I never saw anyone's room service leftovers in the hall--ever. Finally, Gio's was made special with a welcome drink from your Reservations Manager, and the dinner was spectacular. I've never eaten swordfish as lovingly and deliciously presented or prepared. I worked in hotel management for seven years; first with the old Fred Harvey company (yes, I'm old--74), and then with Amfac in Hawaii, and taught HM at the School of Travel Industry Managment at the University of Hawaii. Your hotel, my friend, is at the very top of the class.

Everyone was so nice

Accommodation and service were great, but what stands out is the warmth, helpfulness, and courtesy exhibited by every staff member we encountered -- from the waitresses at breakfast to room service to the front desk to guest services -- just exceptional. We kept commenting on it as we went through the week.

- Thomas Duncan

Beautiful honeymoon in Halifax.

My wife and I were married on July 20. On July 22, we flew out to Halifax to start our maritime honeymoon. When we arrived at the hotel we were greeted very warmly by the desk staff. A bottle of champagne was sent to our room within 5 minutes of our arrival, which was an awesome way to start our trip. The room amenities, including linens, towels, and toiletries, are very high quality. We were extremely impressed. Access to the fourth floor lounge was great and really helped make our stay comfortable and easy. Overall we had a great stay at the Prince George and definitely look forward to a return visit.

great location

We enjoyed our stay at the Prince George. The hotel was clean, staff friendly and the location is awesome so close to everything. We were there to attend the Kiss concert. If i do have a negative it would be the cost of parking ( $22.00 ).As a guest of the hotel i find this a charge that we should not have to pay.If you are going to charge that high price,at least put it into the room total and dont smack a room charge and a 22.00 parking bill, put it all in one.As a customer i think most feel like idiots when we have a extra charge for parking at a establishment we choose to stay. The web site i looked at when considering did not mention a 22.00 fee for parking,if it did it was buried under alot of information. While on the subject of pricing,$ 16.99 for a movie, really? If your pricing was lower you would rent many more.We wiould have rented one but 16.99,dont think so tim. all in all our stay was just fine.

- Randy Jollie

Dear Mr. Jollie,

Parking and the price of movies is something I like to avoid when I travel too Mr. Jollie so I know how you feel.  The movie system is something we will look at very closely in the coming months because comments like yours do appear from time to time.  I can assure you the hotel does not determine the prices when it comes to movies.

Parking is a bit different because we do have many costs associated with that service.  We aren't the cheapest but we aren't the most expensive either and pride ourselves on making the parking experience if it is self parking or valet in the city.

Thank you for staying with us - I went to the KISS concert too - It was fantastic wasn't it?

the staff were very friendly but the o ly negative experience was primarily with the woman at the front desk. this was our honeymoon and her poor social abilities did not get it started well. the rest of the staff were always smiling and offering a pleasant greeting and eager to help.

Dear Mr. Cormier,

I am so sorry we didn't show you our best at the Front Desk when you arrived for such an important occassion.  I have addressed your comments with the agent who checked you in and she feels awful.  I know this will not be duplicated Mr. Cormier and I appreciate you letting me know.

Superb Stay

I planned this trip some months ago and I used the waiting time to revel in anticipation! I planned a retreat in Terrence Bay, Nova Scotia and then booked an extra two nights in Halifax at the Prince George, to enjoy some city life after a quiet and satisfying country stay. I liked receiving the e-mail a few days before my stay at the hotel. I was able to check in early on the day of arrival and was greeted by friendly front desk staff. The room had a great harbour view, was well-appointed and clean. The bed was comfortable and the shower was great! I even liked the coffee-maker and selection of coffees and tea and the fridge was convenient. The Bed and Breakfast plan and the hotel's location were what attracted me to book to your hotel and I was not dispappointed. The food and service on both mornings was excellent. I also used the gym and even found that experience to be good! The number of machines and their quality were quite appropriate. The front desk very politely allowed me a slightly later check-out and I was able to book a town car and store my luggage until my departure for the airport. The only (very minor) criticism: one of the elevators wasn't functionning so I walked up to my fifth floor room many times...but that helped to burn off all of the vacation over-eating. I thouroughly enjoyed my superb stay at the Prince George. P.S. Nova Scotia rocks! Bernadette Clement

had a wedding and that was great, the rest was bad.

We had my son's wedding at your hotel. Check in was messed up. My room was too hot and that was even after maintenance took a look at it. The wedding was Saturday and I still don't know the final cost. I spent 7000.00 + and you. Charged me for parking. When I return to Halifax I will not stay at your hotel.

- William Booth

Dear Mr. Booth,

my 'Home away from home'

The Prince George Hotel is really my 'home away from home'. I work for the Tim Hortons Head office and stay at the PG each time I am in Halifax for one of our conferences. My Mom and I both stayed at the PG this time and we got two rooms that were connecting, which was great. Mind you, the doors were not opened for a very long time, I believe. The front desk staff was great as were the conceirge 'guys'. No matter what we asked of them, it was never a problem and was always done with a smile. Doug stands out from the team. And of course, Barbara Broome - who I work with each time I am at the PG. She is a pleasure to work with!

Sea King Jubilee a Success

Two American's returned to Halifax after 37 years to celebrate the Sea King Jubilee. I was an exchange pilot to the CAF. The choice to stay at the Prince George Hotel made the whole three days a total success. Your desk staff and guest services were outstanding. The woman at Guest Services was extremely helpful in finding out about transportation and Jubilee sites. Shopping was enhanced by her insights on what and where to buy. Stopped by the cocktail lounge for a drink and met the nicest waitstaff. The first night we sat in a booth and service was attentive, but not overbearing. The next night we sat at the bar with a great tender. At the bar, we were lucky to sit with the VIP speaker for our Jubilee, who was also staying at the Prince George. We had both left the bustle of Shearwater for a more quiet atmosphere. All in all I would definitely return.
